City Temple

City Temple

The second weekend I got to visit a place that was top in my list of places to see before I die: Angkor Wat. Angkor Wat is the largest Hindu-turned-Buddhist temple in the world. It is located nearby the town of Siem Reap, in Cambodia. It was the center of one of the many Khmer capitals built in the 12th century, which was abandoned during a Siam invasion and discovered by the French in the late nineteenth century. Most of the temples and other buildings in this area have been cleaned and recovered from the dense forest. One that has not been cleaned is still covered by gigantic trees that grew on its walls and is informally called “Jungle Temple” (it became famous thanks to the movie Tomb Rider).

  1. Florencia, I'm thrilled you made it to Angkor Wat! One of the most memorable places I've ever visited. Although relatively far away from the main complex (a four hour tuktuk drive), you may also enjoy seeing Beng Mealea. Did you happen to also see the Vietnamese floating village? Difficult yet humbling.

Anyway, I'm truly enjoying your blog. Thank you for sharing your adventures! It's incredibly inspiring.

    Much love,
    Marta
