Packing
AGAIN, to move for the tenth time since I arrived in Asia two and a half months
ago, I am almost wishing I had named my blog differently. It so happens that
the house I thought was perfect for me to live in turned into a big nightmare.
Or worse than that, since I have not been able to sleep much since I moved into
it. I found out the first night in the house that the neighbors just across the
narrow street from me run a fruit selling business and start working at 3:30
AM. At that time, they turn on the lights, which illuminate my bedroom, and
start receiving the buyers that come in trucks and discuss their transactions
loudly. Despite my great ability to sleep like a log, I have been awake since
very early in the last days. It feels as if people were having a party right
behind the window from where I am sleeping.
In
addition to the noise in the early morning through the night, the neighbors and
their clients are always outside just a few steps from my windows. Therefore, I
had to drop my cherished custom of walking around bare. On top of all, I am
realizing that I love both the city and the country but detest what is in the
middle: the suburbs. Regrettably, I chose a home in such ill middle background.
Therefore,
I went home hunting once more and found a room in a cute neighborhood very
close to the downtown area of Phuket Town. Although it is called “apartment”,
it looks just like a hotel room. I am not worried. I have lived in a studio
apartment for so long that I will feel like at home. At least, this one has a
balcony and a swimming pool. Most importantly, I will be closer to friends,
restaurants, bars, walking areas… And I will be able to sleep in beyond 3:30
AM.
