What do you talk about with a six-year-old child?

The girl that I have been tutoring and I became friends, despite our age gap. We have some fascinating conversations, for example:

Onnichar: In the park there is a huge butterfly that you can climb on.

Me: Really? I think I will come to climb it soon.

Onnichar: No, teacher Flo, you are too big! Oh, I know! You should have a baby and bring your baby to play. Then, you can watch. Or… there are many babies that have no mummy or daddy. You can get one of those. Then, the baby is happy and you are happy. But… It would be a baby with no daddy. It would be: teacher Flo, the baby and… no daddy!

Thankfully, she got me in a good mood.

Onnichar!

  1. I wonder how it comes to pass that we lose that wonder and joy that these children have. So wise!

  2. It was a humbling experience. I was treating her like a baby and she told me something that most adults would not dare tell me!
It confirmed that we are born wise and we spend our entire life trying to forget it.
